Be With Me By: J. Lynn

So I know I am a few days late with this one, but this weekend was really busy (I got to see my honey Luke Bryan in concert and then spent some well needed family time away from electronics.) and I didn't get a chance to post this then.

But as many of you might know I am slightly obsessed with Jennifer L. Armentrout's books. She is an amazing author and I pretty much have not read a book yet that I didn't like. I read the first book in this series back when it was only available in E-book and have been stoked to see it get turned into a series.

So here it is, the cover to Be With Me...

Will be available on February,4, 2013

Synopsis:
Teresa Hamilton is having a rough year—she’s in love with her big brother’s best friend, but he hasn't spoken to her since they shared a truly amazing, mind-blowing, change-your-life kiss. She got out of a terrible relationship. And now an injury is threatening to end her dance career for good. It’s time for Plan B – college. And maybe a chance to convince Jase that what they have together is real.
Jase Winstead has a huge secret that he’s not telling anyone. Especially not his best friend’s incredibly beautiful sister. Even though he and Teresa shared the hottest kiss of his life, he knows that his responsibilities must take priority. He certainly doesn't have time for a relationship. But it doesn't help that all he can think about kissing the one girl who could ruin everything for him.

As they’re thrown together more and more, Jase and Tess can’t keep denying their feelings for each other. But a familiar danger looms and tragedy strikes. As the campus recovers, the star-crossed couple must decide what they’re willing to risk to be together, and what they’re willing to lose if they’re not…

About the Author:
T.M. Franklin started out her career writing non-fiction in a television newsroom. Graduating with a B.A. in Communications specializing in broadcast journalism and production, she worked for nine years as a major market television news producer, and garnered two regional Emmy Awards, before she resigned to be a full-time mom and part-time freelance writer. After writing and unsuccessfully querying a novel that she now admits, “is not that great,” she decided to follow the advice of one of the agents who turned her down—write some more and get better at it. Her first published novel, MORE, was born during National Novel Writing month, a challenge to write a novel in thirty days.

She lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mike, is mom to two boys, Justin and Ryan, and has an enormous black dog named Rocky who’s always lying nearby while she’s writing. Whether he’s soothed by the clicking of the computer keys or just waiting for someone to rub his belly is up for debate.

In addition to MORE, Franklin penned the Amazon best-selling short story, Window, as well as another short story, A Piece of Cake, which appears in the Romantic Interludes anthology. The sequel to MORE, The Guardians, will be released November 7, 2013.

Excerpt:
He was close.
Ava pressed back against the tree trunk, trying to hold her breath but only able to manage it for a moment or two before her lungs gave out, air sawing out and in again desperately against her will. Rough bark rubbed the skin of her palms where she gripped the tree, scraped her cheek as she turned her head to try and catch a glimpse of him.
Darkness mocked her.
Nothing to see. No one to help.
She eyed the entrance to her dorm frantically, the lit doorway calling out like a beacon on the other side of the concrete bridge.
If she could only get there . . .
If she could only get behind that door—lock it fast—she would be safe.
Safe.
The word echoed through her panicked brain, foreign and twisted.
Could she ever really be safe while he was out there?
“Do it,” she muttered, inhaling sharply as tension rippled through her. “Just go.”
With a shove at the tree, she ran for the bridge, heels clacking loudly on the path as her muscles screamed. She glanced over her shoulder, catching a flicker of movement through the trees.
No!
Ava willed her legs to move faster, arms pumping in desperation—reaching out and pulling at the air, as if she could yank herself forward.
Her breath caught. She could hear him. Footsteps chasing after her.
No—footsteps beside her—now ahead of her.
Where was he?
The better question seemed to be, where wasn’t he?
He surrounded her—harsh breaths and pounding feet—a low, mocking laugh as she leapt from the bridge back onto the path.
Only a few more feet to the door.
Almost there.
She reached out, aching to wrap her fingers around the gleaming brass doorknob.
Then with a blur of movement and a gust of a swirling air, he stood in front of her, blocking the way. Huge, hulking, and shadowed by the darkness, he laughed as she recoiled in fear, falling backward in her haste.
“Did you really think you could escape?” he hissed, reaching toward her.
Fingers ripped the icy ground as she rolled over, trying to crawl away, rocks digging into her knees and her palms, a bit of glass slicing neatly into the meat of her thumb. She winced, lifting it to her mouth to suck the blood, feet kicking back as he grabbed her ankle.
He laughed again, jerking her back with one strong pull and dragging her effortlessly across the ground. He bent down, wrapping a meaty fist around her neck, and she clawed it desperately, unable to breathe.
Lifting Ava off her feet, he glared at her, a flash of light catching his angry, mismatched eyes—one blue, one green.
For a moment, she was almost mesmerized.
Then his lips curled in derision and he squeezed, cutting off the scream curdling in her throat.

Let The Sky Fall By: Shannon Messenger

Ok ya'll I have a new favorite book. It only took me three days to read, which is actually longer than normal for me when I find something I really enjoy, but hey life can sometimes get in the way of reading every minute of the day. No matter how bad I want to hehe.

Synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Vane Weston has no idea how he survived the category five tornado that killed his parents. And he has no idea if the beautiful, dark-haired girl who’s swept through his dreams every night since the storm is real. But he hopes she is.
Seventeen-year-old Audra is a sylph, an air elemental. She walks on the wind, can translate its alluring songs, and can even coax it into a weapon with a simple string of commands. She’s also a guardian—Vane’s guardian—and has sworn an oath to protect Vane at all costs. Even if it means sacrificing her own life.
When a hasty mistake reveals their location to the enemy who murdered both of their families, Audra’s forced to help Vane remember who he is. He has a power to claim—the secret language of the West Wind, which only he can understand. But unlocking his heritage will also unlock the memory Audra needs him to forget. And as the storm bears down on them, she starts to realize the greatest danger might not be the warriors coming to destroy them—but the forbidden romance that’s grown between them. (From Barnes and Noble)

So I cannot believe that I have not heard of this book till now. I absolutely L.O.V.E.D. it. Now I know that almost all of these reviews wind up with me saying how much I like a book, but hey I am picky about the books that I pick up off shelves when i'm not being opened minded for a new ARC or something, and because of this picky-ness I typically will not even start reading a book unless the cover and synopsis strike my book bone. (Yes there is such a thing as a book bone. Its right between your brain and your heart lol)

So at first I was not all lovey dovey with this book. I wasn't exactly thrilled with the first person dialog. which just so ya'll know I admit it is ridiculous to even feel that way. I guess I get so used to books being in third person that it always takes me an adjusting period to get used to it. But by chapter three or four I was so into the story that I wasn't even thinking about the dialog anymore. The story is split POV between Vane and Audra, which I love split POV because it really adds to a story I think. You get to find out more of the whole picture than you do from one characters perspective, get a chance to see into each characters mind and find out what their thinking or feeling during a specific situation or piece of dialog. And with this story it really worked. There were things that Audra knew that she couldn't tell Vane about, and by getting a glimpse into her head you see just how she feels about herself, and the feelings for Vane that she tries so hard to hide.

I love the chemistry between Vane and Audra. Vane is the goofy, sarcastic, easy going guy that doesn't take things very seriously most of the time. He tends to keep to him self although he does have friends. Plus he has terrible luck with dates, if it's not one thing ruining them for him it's another. Or more specifically its an Audra. Audra could be considered the complete opposite of Vane. She is uptight and trained to protect Vane from the same fate both their parents suffered. Dealing with her own inner turmoil while having to try and prepare them both for the impending stormers who are coming to kill them will push her to realize not only the feelings she has for Vane but make her realize that she may be blaming the wrong person for what happened so long ago. The two characters really in my opinion balance each other out and have a great dynamic throughout the story. While for once I am not having one of my book boyfriend freak out moments I must say I found Vane absolutely adorable and he will most definitely be on my ever growing book boyfriend list. And come on what hot windwalker wouldn't make the hottie list? he he

So one of the things that I enjoyed the most about this book was Messenger's originality. I know I have said it before, but when an author can come up with something new I get excited. I am an avid vampire, mermaid, siren, alien kinda girl but when I picked this book up off the shelf at the library (Yes I still go to the library. I am a huge library advocate. As a poor college kid, and as much as I love to read I just can't afford what most books, even E-books cost these days) I was instantly curious to see what the freak a "windwalker" or "sylph" was. It was like a breath of fresh air to see something so new being done (Ha get it a breath of fresh air. haha. Yeah I know I'm not that funny *sigh) Any who, Messenger gives an awesome new world where the wind can be manipulated and the forces of good and bad are in an epic battle to see who will essentially rule the winds and the world if wanted. One problem with that is the only person who could understand all four of the winds has no idea how too. While Audra stands on the "good" side as a guardian and tries to help Vane learn who he is and his full potential, the evil Raiden is bent on mastering the four winds to rule the world. While the westerly wind people have all but died protecting their language and heritage Vane is all that is left, and he and Audra are the last hope of defeating Raiden.

Like I said before I loved this book. 5 stars most definitely. I would encourage you to all go out and get a copy either from your local library, bookstore, or E-book store. It is worth reading.

Excerpt:
I glanced at Alejandro who lay on his back on a table next to me also clad in a threadbare patient gown. Strangely, it suited him. His eyes widened as he watched what I was going through, most likely realizing—he was next. “Dr. Tung,” I said, “please be super gentle with the needles on my friend, Alejandro. He’s not here to heal. Or research. He’s just here to experience… life. I think.”
“Yes.” Dr. Tung gently stuck in a needle in Alex’s forehead. “Yin Tang. Third eye point.”
“Hey!” He jumped halfway off the table. “What are you doing? This feels weird.”
Dr. Tung put a hand on his shoulder and gently pushed him back down. “You have energy shut off from accident that happened about four years ago.”
“You were in an accident?” I asked.
“You’re not an official Angeleno until you’ve had your first fender-bender,” Alex said. “It’s practically a rite of passage.”
Dr. Tung stuck a needle in Alex’s chest and then—bam, bam, bam, three needles in his right ankle and foot. “You need to release that energy so chi flows. So life flows.”
“I’m not a human pin-cushion, you know?” He squirmed.
“Stop moving,” I said. “You’re going to screw up the needles. You don’t want to do that.”
Alex frowned but stopped fidgeting. “Fine. But, I’m doing this for you, Sophie.”
Dr. Tung stuck a few needles in his ear. And one in his nose.
He sneezed, which didn’t help matters. “Dammit!” He was filled with needles, half naked and wearing a stupid gown. He looked at me like a miserable puppy that was getting shots at the vet.
I started giggling. I knew it was wrong. Very wrong. But I couldn’t help it.
“Stop laughing,” Alex hissed. “You’re going to screw up the needles. God knows you don’t want to screw up the needles. Because we could actually be having a normal date.”
“But we’re not on a date,” I said.
“Whatever. We could be catching a movie. Going to a party. But no, we’re in Chinatown. And not for Dim Sum. We are quite possibly screwing up the needles.”
I couldn’t stop laughing. “Dr. Tung. Dr. Tung?”
“Yes?” he asked.
“I think Alejandro needs his Yin Tang opened a teensy bit more.”
Dr. Tung moved toward Alex and eyeballed his forehead. He twisted the needle deeper.
“Ow!” He hollered.
“I come back in fifteen minutes. You two be quiet. Do not scare other patients.” Dr. Tung quickly left the room.
“This is like hitting me with the kickball in middle school, isn’t it?” Alex asked. A grin grew on his face. “I think this means you like me.”
“Get over yourself,” I said.

Three good things I learned this year:

Pulling Anna into their extravagant lifestyle on the Gulf Coast, Lucy pushed Anna outside her comfort zone, and Jack showed her feelings she’d never experienced... Until he mysteriously withdrew.

Anna turned to her internship at the city paper and to her old attraction for Julian, a handsome local artist and rising star, for distraction. But both led to her discovery of a decades-old secret closely guarded by the twins’ distant, single father.

Excerpt:
I rounded the corner, but it was a shadowy dead end. I doubled back and listened again. It sounded like they were just on the other side of the hay wall, and I started running straight ahead. My heart was thudding when the passage opened. I could go right or left. I waited and listened, and once again, I felt the swish of air as a figure came up behind me. I spun around ready to scream, but it was only Julian.

“Hey,” he said low in my hair, as his hands found my sides.

“Julian!” I laughed, hugging him in relief. He smiled and pulled me into a shadowy corner. “I hate being alone in these things, and I thought you were—”

He leaned in and cut me off with a kiss. My heart had been racing from the fright and the running, but now it was flying for a different reason. Instinctively, I pulled him closer, not wanting to let him go, and he held me tighter in response.

This time his kiss was not a question, it was a demand, and the part of me I’d been pushing down for weeks came rushing up to meet him. My arms were around his neck, and I slipped my fingers into his hair. I felt his lips curve into a smile against mine, and our mouths opened, tongues touched, and electricity raced to my toes. It was hot and breathtaking, and everything I’d expected returning Julian’s kiss to be like. His uncasted arm circled my waist, holding me strong against his body, then he lifted his head to look into my eyes.

We were both breathing fast. Neither of us spoke, we only smiled, a little amazed and unable to look away. He leaned forward to kiss me again, and once more I kissed him back, open-mouthed and eager. Hungry. I felt confident and strong, and I didn’t want to stop ever. He held me back against the scratchy hay wall, and my hands moved from his shirt to his shoulders and then his neck. I wanted to touch his skin. I wanted to pull him closer. I wanted to feel his skin against mine.

His lips moved to my jaw then my chin, and without thinking, I murmured his name. I dropped my face against his neck, inhaling deeply the faint scent of his cologne mixed with the straw all around us. We were swirling in a dizzying wave of adrenaline until I heard voices coming toward us.

As if waking from the most amazing dream, I opened my eyes and reluctantly stepped away, out of Julian’s arms.

“I think I heard them over here!” Renee ran up and stopped short, the laughing others close behind her.

I turned away and tried to pick the hay fragments out of my hair. There was no denying what we’d just done, and I didn’t know what to say. Going after another person’s date wasn’t cool, and it wasn’t the reputation I was after, even if it was for Julian.
