The de Vincent brothers are back—and so is the intrigue that surrounds them—in New York Times bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout’s sizzling new novel...

Yet here she is, filling in for her sick mother. Avoiding Gabe should be easy, especially when so much of Nikki’s time is spent trying not to be stabbed in the back by the malicious hangers-on who frequent the mansion. But escaping memories of Gabe, much less his smoking-hot presence, is harder than expected—especially since he seems determined to be in Nikki’s space as much as possible.

Gabriel spent years beating himself up over his last encounter with Nikki. He’d wanted her then, but for reasons that were bad for both of them. Things have now changed. Gabe sees more than a girl he’s known forever; he sees a smart, talented, and heartbreakingly beautiful woman... one who’s being stalked from the shadows. Now, Gabe will do anything to keep Nikki safe—and to stop the de Vincent curse from striking again.

Moonlight Seduction by Jennifer L. Armentrout

Chapter 1

Six years later . . .
It took every ounce of self-control for Gabriel de Vincent to stand back and do nothing. Just stand there and watch him being led away, but that’s what he had to do, because that’s what he’d promised and Gabe tried to be a man of his word.
Sometimes he failed at that. Failed at that in ways that haunted him late at night, but he wouldn’t go back on this.
He’d promised them three uninterrupted months. That’s what he was going to give them. His jaw ached from how hard he was clenching it as the Rothchilds walked back into the restaurant. He didn’t take his eyes off them, not until he couldn’t see them anymore. Only then did he look at the slip of paper.
Looking down at the drawing of puppy on a piece of blue construction paper, he felt the worst mix of emotions. Sadness. Pride. Helplessness. Hope. Fury that he’d never tasted before. He had no idea how one person could feel all of that at once, but he did.
A wry smile tugged at his lips. There was definitely talent in the drawing. Real skill. The de Vincent knack for the arts was still kicking around it seemed.
His gaze flickered over what was written in a blockish handwriting. He’d already read in three times, but couldn’t bear to read it a fourth time. Not right now. He didn’t want to fold the paper and created creases in it, so he was careful as he carried it back to where he was parked.
“Gabriel de Vincent.”
Frowning at the vaguely familiar voice, he turned around. A man stepped out from behind a truck. Dark, square sunglasses shielded half the man’s face, but Gabe recognized him.
He sighed. “Ross Haid. To what do I owe the honor of seeing you in Baton Rouge?”
The reporter for the Advocate gave one of what Gabe assumed was a trademark half grin; the kind that probably got him into a places and events he sure as hell didn’t belong in. “Headquarters are here. You know that.”
“Yeah, but you work out of the New Orleans office, Ross.”
He shrugged a shoulder as he neared Gabe. “I had to come up to headquarters. Heard through the grapevine that a de Vincent was in town.”
“Uh-huh.” Not for one second did Gabe believe that. “And you just happen to hear that I was at this restaurant?”
The smile kicked up a notch as he ran a hand over his blond hair. “Nah. Seeing you here was just luck.”
Bullshit. Ross had been sniffing after his family for about two months now, trying to get to one of them when they were out at dinner or at an event, showing up at nearly every damn function one of them was attending. But back home, in New Orleans, Ross had trouble getting near them. Well, he had troubled getting to the one he really wanted to talk to which was Gabe’s older brother.
Didn’t require any leap of logic to figure out what was going on. Somehow Ross had heard that Gabe was here, and that’s why Ross conveniently ended up here. Normally he could tolerate Ross’ incessant questioning. Hell, he sort of liked the guy, appreciated his determination, but not when Ross was here and something he didn’t want a reporter finding out mere feet away.
Lowering his sunglasses, Ross eyed Gabe’s ride. “Nice car. Is it one of the new Porsche 911s?”
Gabe raised his brows.
“Family business must be going well. Then again, the family business is always going strong, isn’t it? The de Vincents are old money. The one percent of the one percent.” Gabe’s family was one of the oldest, linked all the way back to the days the great state of Louisiana was being created. Now they owned the most profitable oil refineries in the Gulf, coveted real estate all around the world, tech firms, and once his older brother married, they’d be in control of the one of the largest shipping industries in the world. So, yeah, the de Vincents were wealthy, but the car and nearly everything Gabe owned, he bought it with the money he worked for. Not the money he was born with.
“Some say that your family has so much money, that the de Vincents are above the law.” Ross straightened his sunglasses. “Seems that way.”
Gabe really didn’t have time for this. “Whatever you want to say, can you stop beating around the damn bush and get to it? I’m planning to head home sometime in the next year.”
The reporter’s smile faded. “Since you’re here and I’m here, and it’s damn hard to talk to you all any other time. I want to chat about your father’s death.”
“I’m sure you do.”
“I don’t believe it was a suicide,” Ross continued. “And I find it also convenient that Chief Cobbs, who openly and publicly wanted your father’s death investigated as a homicide ended up dead in a freak car accident.”
“Is that right?”
Frustration hummed off Ross about as loud as the damn locusts. “Is that all you got to say to me about this?”
“Pretty much.” Gabe grinned then. “That and you have an overactive imagination, but I’m sure you’ve heard that before.”
“I don’t think my imagination is nearly vast enough to compete with all the things the de Vincents have had their hands in.”
Probably not.
“Okay, I won’t ask you about your father or the chief.” Ross shifted his weight as Gabe opened his driver’s door. “Also heard some interesting rumors about some of the staff at the de Vincent compound.”
“I’m started to feel like you might be stalking us.” Gabe placed the drawing facedown on the passenger’s seat. “If you want to talk about staffing, then you need to have a chat with Dev.”
“Devlin won’t make time to talk to me.” “That doesn’t sound like my problem.” “It seems like it is now.” Gabe laughed, but the sound was without humor as he reached inside, grabbing his sunglasses off the visor. “Trust me, Ross, this isn’t my problem.”
“You may not think so now, but that’ll change.” A muscle twitched along the man’s jaw. “I plan to blow the roof of every single damn secret the de Vincents have been keeping for years. I’m going to do a story that not even your family can pay to keep quiet.”
Shaking his head, Gabe slipped his sunglasses on. “I like you, Ross. You know I’ve never had a problem with you. So, I just want to get that out of the way. But you have got to come up with some better material, because that was clichĂ© as shit.” He rested his hand on the frame of the car door. “You’ve got to know you’re not the first reporter to come around thinking they’re somehow going to dig some skeletons out of our closets and expose us for whatever the hell you think we are. You’re not going to be the last to fail.”
“I don’t fail,” Ross said. “Not ever.” “Everyone fails.” Gabe climbed in behind the wheel. “Except the de Vincents?” “You said it, not me.” Gabe looked up at the reporter. “Some unasked for advice? I’d find another story to investigate.” “Is there where you’re going to tell me to be careful?” He sounded oddly gleeful by the prospect. “Warn me off? Because people who mess with the de Vincents end up missing or worse?”
Gabe smirked as he hit the ignition key. “Doesn’t sound like I need to tell you that. Seems like you already know what happens.”
Nikki stood in the center of the quiet and sterile kitchen of the de Vincent mansion, telling herself that she was not the same little idiot that almost drowned herself out in the pool six years ago.
She sure as hell wasn’t the same idiot who had spent years making an utter fool out of herself, chasing after a grown man. An act, which resulted in one of the worst ideas she’d ever had in the history of bad ideas.
And Nikki had a remarkable history of making not the brightest of all decisions. Her dad said she had a bit of wild streak in her, taking after Pappy, but Nikki liked to blame the de Vincents for the recklessness. They had this really bizarre talent of making everyone around them stick one toe into Recklessville.
Her mother claimed that most of Nikki’s bad decisions came from having a good heart.
Nikki had the habit of picking up strays—stray cats, dogs, a lizard here and there, even a snake, and humans, too. She was a bleeding heart, hating to see anyone she cared about in pain and she was oftentimes a bit overly affected by the troubles of strangers.
It was why she avoided the TV around the holidays, because they always played those heart-wrenching videos of freezing animals or children left to starve in war-torn countries. She hated everything about New Year’s Eve because of that and spent the week between Christmas and the first of January moping around.
There was a lot of Nikki that was the same as she was the last time she walked through this house. She still got emotionally invested in animals that didn’t belong to her—that was why she volunteered at the local animal shelter. She still couldn’t turn away from someone who needed help, and she still found herself in weird situations but reckless? Wild?
Not anymore.
Not since the last time she’d been in the house, right before she left for college. That had been four years ago and now she was back, and nothing and everything had changed.
“You okay, hon?” her father asked.
Turning to find her father standing just inside the large kitchen, she pulled herself out of her thoughts and smiled widely for him. Goodness, her dad was starting to look his age, and that scared her—truly terrified her. Her parents had her late in life, but she was only twenty-two, and she wanted another fifty years or so with them.
Nikki knew that wasn’t going to happen. Especially now. She forced those thoughts from her head. “Yes. I’m just . . . it’s weird being in here after being gone so long. The kitchen is different.” “It was remodeled a few years back,” he replied. The mansion was constantly being remodeled it seemed. After all, how many times had this place caught fire since it was built? Nikki had lost count. Her father drew in a deep breath, and the lines around his mouth became more pronounced. He looked so tired. “I don’t know if I’ve said this to you or not, but thank you.”
She waved him off. “You don’t need to thank me, Dad.”
“Yeah, I do.” He walked over to where she stood. “You went away to college to do something better than this—better than cooking dinners and running a household. To become something better.”
Offended on his behalf, she crossed her arms and met his weary gaze. “There’s nothing wrong with cooking dinners and running a household. It’s good, honest work. Wok that put me through college. Right, Dad?”
“We take great pride in our job. Don’t get me wrong, but what your mother and I did all these years was so you could do something else.” He sighed. “So, it means a lot that you would come home to help us out, Nicolette.”
Only her dad and mom called her by her full name. Everyone else called her Nikki. Everyone except a certain de Vincent who shall remained nameless. He and only he called her Nic.
Her parents had worked for the de Vincents, one of the wealthiest families in the States and possibly the world, since long before she was born. It was weird growing up in this house, being privy to a lot of strange stuff—things the public has no idea about and would probably pay a large sum of money to learn. And personally? It was like she had a foot in two different worlds, one absurdly wealthy and the other middle working class.
Her father was basically a butler, except she always had a small suspicion that her father had . . . taken care of things for the de Vincents that no normal butler did. Her mother ran the day-to-day functions of the house and prepared the dinners. Both her parents loved working for the family and she knew both had planned to continue to the day they died, but her mom . . . .
Nikki’s chest squeezed painfully. Her mom was not well and it had happened so fast, coming out of nowhere. The dreaded C word.
“Honestly, this is perfect. I got my degree and this will give me time to figure things out.” In other words, figure out what the hell she wanted to really do with her life. Get to work or go for her master’s? She wasn’t sure yet. “And I want to be here while Mom is going through everything.”
“I know.” His smile wobbled a little as he brushed a strand of blondish-brown hair out of her face.
“We could’ve hired someone else to step in while your mother—”
“No, you couldn’t have.” She laughed at the mere thought of that. “I know how weird the de Vincents are. I know how protective you two are of them. I know how to keep my mouth shut and not see what I’m not supposed to. And you two don’t have to worry about someone new not keeping their mouth shut and not seeing what they’re not supposed to.”
Her dad arched a brow. “A lot of things have changed, honey.”
She snorted as she took in the white marble countertops with gray veining. Mom had filled her in on some of those changes during one of her chemo treatments. After all, what else did they have to talk about while she was being pumped full of poison that would hopefully kill only the cancer cells building in her lung?
Things in the de Vincent mansion that had changed.
For starters, the patriarch of the family, one Lawrence de Vincent, had hung himself a few months back. An act that had shocked her because she figured that man would’ve outlived a nuclear bomb. And Lucian de Vincent apparently had a live-in girlfriend and they were about to move into their own place. That was even more insane, the idea of Lucian settling down.
The Lucian she remembered put the play in player. He’d been an incorrigible flirt, leaving a string of broken hearts across the state of Louisiana and beyond.
She hadn’t met his girlfriend yet since they were away on some kind of trip; the rich rarely seemed to have much of a schedule. She just hoped whoever his girlfriend was, she was nice and nothing like Devlin’s fiancĂ©.
Nikki might not have been around the de Vincents in four years, but she remembered Sabrina Harrington and her brother Parker.
Sabrina had just begun seeing Devlin the year before Nikki had left for college and that had been a year’s worth of snide comments and rather impressive disdainful looks. Nikki could deal with Sabrina though. If she was the same woman as she was before, she could be as mean as a cornered rattlesnake, but Nikki normally didn’t even register on her scale of people to pay attention to.
Parker though?
Nikki suppressed a shudder, not wanting to worry her father who was watching her like a hawk.
Parker had often stared at her the way she’d wanted Gabe to look at her, especially when she had grown brave enough to move from a one-piece bathing suit to a two-piece.
And Parker . . . he had done more than look.
She drew in a deep breath. She wasn’t going to think about Parker. He wasn’t worth a single thought.
What happened to Lawrence, and Lucian’s new romance weren’t the only things her mom had told her. She filled Nikki in on the whole sister reappearing and then disappearing again thing. Something that she knew the general public had no idea had even happened. She didn’t know the details around it, but Nikki knew that in typical de Vincent fashion, it had to the most drama-llama-est thing possible.
And she also knew better than to ask questions about it. Her father stepped back. “The boys are all out.” Thank God and baby Jesus. “Devlin should be back this evening for dinner. He likes dinner to be ready at six. I believe Ms. Harrington will be joining him.” Well, thanking God and baby Jesus lasted all of five seconds. She resisted the urge to roll her eyes and make a gagging sound. “Okay.” “Gabriel is still in Baton Rouge, or at least, that’s the last I heard,” her father continued, ticking off the brothers’ schedules while she wondered what Gabe was doing in Baton Rouge. Not that she cared. She totally didn’t care whatsoever, but she wondered if it had anything to do with his woodworking business.
The man was talented with his hands. Really talented. Her cheeks flushed as an unwanted memory of how his calloused palms felt pierced her straight through the chest. Nope. Not going there. Absolutely not. There were examples of Gabe’s skill all around the house—the furniture, chair rails, and trim, even in the kitchen. All of the woodwork was designed and created by Gabe. As a little girl, she’d been fascinated with the idea of picking up a piece of wood and turning it into something that was truly a work of art. That fascination had turned into quite the hobby for Nikki.
It had started one long, fall afternoon when she was ten and she’d found Gabe outside, whittling away on a piece of wood. Out of boredom, she’d asked him to show her how he did it. Instead of shooing her off, Gabe had given her small scrapes of wood and showed her how to use a chisel.
She’d gotten pretty good at it, but she hadn’t picked up a chisel in over four years. Nikki refocused on what her dad was telling her. “We’re a little understaffed right now,” her dad continued. “So there’s a lot of dusting in your near future. Devlin is very much like his father.”
Great.
That was not a compliment in her book. “Is it the ghosts?” She half joked. “Scaring off the staff?” Her father shot her a look, but she knew damn well that her parents believed this
house was haunted. Hell, they wouldn’t even come here at night unless it was a dire emergency. None of the staff would and everyone in town knew the legends about the land the de Vincent mansion sat on. And who hadn’t heard about the de Vincent curse more than a time or two?
Being in this house as much as she had been in the past, she had seen some weird things and heard some stuff that couldn’t be explained. Plus she grew up within minutes of New Orleans. She was a believer, but unlike her friend Rosie, whom she met in college, she wasn’t obsessed with all things paranormal. Nikki operated on the whole if- you-don’t-acknowledge-ghosts-they-can’t-bother-you theory and so far it had worked so far wonderfully.
Then again, Nikki had only come here at night once in her life, and that had not turned out well at all. So maybe ignoring ghosts didn’t work, because she liked to think
she was possessed by one of ghosts that supposedly wandered the halls, and that was what provoked her to do what she’d done that night.
Nikki was well aware of how the house was run because she’d spent most of her summer vacations in the house watching her mom, so she got to work pretty quickly once her father left her.
First thing first was tracking down what staff they did have at the house. Understaffed her butt! The only staff they had left was her dad; the landscaper who was constantly mowing grass it seemed or re-mulching; the de Vincent driver; and Mrs. Kneely, an older woman who’d done the laundry services since Nikki was a little girl.
Beverly Kneely actually owed her own laundry business and only came to the house three times a week to take care of the linens and clothing.
According to Bev, whom she found in the large mudroom at the back of the house, packing up clothing that needed to be dry-cleaned, over the last couple of months, nearly everyone had quit.
“So, let me get this straight.” Nikki smoothed back a few strands that had escaped the knot she’d pulled her hair up in. “The waiters are gone, as are the maids?”
Bev’s buxom chest heaved as she nodded. “It’s just been your parents for the last three months. I think all that work was wearing poor Livie down.”
Anger flashed through Nikki. Hadn’t the de Vincents noticed how thin and tired her mom had been getting? How quickly she got out of breath? “Why didn’t the de Vincents hire someone to help?”
“Your father tried, but no one around here wants to come close to this place, not after what happened.”
She frowned. “You’re talking about Lawrence? What he did?”
Bev tied up the bags. “Not like that wasn’t bad enough, but that wasn’t the straw the broke the camel’s back around here.”
Nikki had no idea what she was talking about. “I’m sorry. I don’t think I’ve been updated on all the crazy. What else happened?”
Looking around the room, Bev arched her brows as she headed toward the side door. “Walls got ears. You know that. You want to know what’s been going on here, you ask your father or one of the boys.”
Her lips pursed. She was so not asking the boys.
Bev stopped at the door and looked back. “I don’t think Devlin is going to be happy when he sees what you’re wearing.”
“What’s wrong with what I’m wearing?” It was jeans and a black tee shirt. No way was she going to dress like her mom or her dad. Her willingness to help her parents did not extend to wearing uniforms.
She looked down at herself and saw the hole just below the knee. Nikki sighed. Devlin was probably going to have a problem with the hole, but what Nikki wanted to
know was what the hell had happened in this house to drive almost all the staff away? It had to be something. Not just because the de Vincents paid extraordinarily well, but also because her father hadn’t told her. And that meant it was something really bad.

Dreamfall (Dreamfall #1): Amy plum

Hey y'all! đź‘‹đź‘‹đź‘‹
So I know I've been essentially MIA these past few months. Summer is always a slow time in the book world in general, and for me it's even slower because I take time with my family and do the whole vacation thing.
But I'm also still just really struggling with blogging and reading in general, and that's caused a huge gap in getting new posts and content up.
My life is still a ridiculous mess most of the time... As I juggle work, school, and still caring and supporting my mom while she's still recovering from the brain tumor and multiple surgeries this past year.
But I promise I'm going to start trying really hard to be more involved with everyone and get myself back into this awesomely bookish world.
So with that all said, why don't we jump into the review of this crazy book?!

Cata Cordova suffers from such debilitating insomnia that she agreed to take part in an experimental new procedure. She thought things couldn’t get any worse...but she was terribly wrong.

Soon after the experiment begins, there’s a malfunction with the lab equipment, and Cata and six other teen patients are plunged into a shared dreamworld with no memory of how they got there. Even worse, they come to the chilling realization that they are trapped in a place where their worst nightmares have come to life. Hunted by creatures from their darkest imaginations and tormented by secrets they’d rather keep buried, Cata and the others will be forced to band together to face their biggest fears. And if they can’t find a way to defeat their dreams, they will never wake up.

Holy heck y'all!!!

I can't even comprehend what exactly this book did to me yet haha.

Like this book took so many crazy twists and turns, and had me on the edge my seat.... well, bed the entire time.

Let me just explain it all real fast.

So.... I pre-ordered this book back before it came out. It was delivered on release day..... And then what do I do? I sit on it forever and a day. So anyways. I've been having an awful time getting Into any books. I finally found a couple here and there. A sci-fi, or a fantasy. But even some of the ones everyone's been talking about and into, I just can't seem to get to hold my attention.
I've read 2 books. And started and stopped about 6 this past month. It's been brutal. And I've been kinda antsy finding something that does it for me (and it's not like these books I try are boring either. I just can't get myself to enjoy them)

So back to this book. I finally decided last night that I'm still in a fantasy mood (particularly YA)
So I'm looking through my shelves and piles of books. And nothing is catching or pulling at my attention.
And I just happen to spot Dreamfall. I can't remember at all what the book's about. But I love Amy Plum, which drove me to pre-order the book to begin with.
So I head off to bed (I'm an insufferable insomniac. So the start of bed time for me is around 1 or 2 am. 1 in this case.)
Ironic I know, considering what this book is about (It was not lost on me y'all. Not one bit har har)

And for once, I start this book and immediately it catches my interest. So fast forward 4 hours. And it's 5 am now.... blurry eyed, about to pass out where I'm sitting up in bed, I turn to the last page and HOLY FREAKING JESUS ON A FREAKING CRACKER!!!!!

Like my mind is so completely blown and I have no words, and I'm trying to be as quite in my freaking out as I can, so I don't wake everyone plus my cats up in the house. But I'm silently rocking, mouth open, staring down at this mind bomb of a book.... And trying to figure out if I missed something somehow, because there is no possible way that was the actual end to the book. Like there's got to be a epilogue to the epilogue..... And scouring the internet to find out if this book is going to be a series, because I cannot deal with that ending at all haha. (FYI I believe I figured out that this book is going to be a duology)

But let me just say. As crazy that all wound up being..... I loved the book from start to horribly fantastic cliffy end haha

This book took me on such a roller coaster and I loved it so so much.

It's one of those books that leaves you guessing, and just when you get it all figured out.... BOOM!! Something changes, and you're left speculating all over again.

But that was the fun part of the book. Never knowing who or what was going to be the bad guy. Or what was real and what was not.

I also loved how Amy split this book into the 3 POV's. I always get a little worried when there's more than 2. Books can get messy and confusing when you try to show too many angles.
But in this case, it added so much more depth and understanding to the story.
The characters grew on me so fast, and I found myself rooting for all of them, and crushed by particular developments concerning a few of them too.
But guy! Guys! I had something about the characters pegged so well. And OMG I almost freaked out when I found out I was right.
Like you Go Amy Plum! Giving us such unique and interesting characters.

This book was a terrifying, and even at times a freaky read. And exactly what I needed in my time of bookish need.

Plus it gave me a chance to stretch out all those book mojo powers of mine and take a crack at the mystery. And let me tell you. I was spot on a few times. And other times I was just barely brushing on being on the right track. while a few I was completely not expecting.

This book had great in-depth characters that you start to feel and fall for so whole heatedly. And can't wait to see what will come of them.
While also offering a very colorful and expanded world. That could only come up in our most twisted haunting nightmares.

Thanks for some of those BTW Amy. I totally appreciated them at 3 am haha.

But I can't tell you all how much you need to go pick up a copy of this book. It was totally stunning. And if anyone knows.... I've got to know if there will be more!!!

Without a shadow of a doubt...

I give DREAMFALL
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐5 STARS⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

POST EDIT!!!!!
This book IS part of a duology, and the 2nd book is called Neverwake!!

The Great Pursuit (Eurona Dulogy #2) By: Wendy Higgins

Ok so I need to start this thing off by saying a huge thank you to John over at AFK books and of course Wendy Higgins for getting this ARC out to me.
Both of you are absolutely amazing and I can't thank you enough.

Ok so just so everyone is aware... I am totally a Wendy Higgins fangirl hehe
I think I've read all her books but UNKNOWN (Just haven't had the time with the ARC's that needed to be read)
But every book I've read from her has been amazing, and I have to say I just adore Wendy as  a person, and not just her great stories.
She is by far one of the most personable authors I've met, and is an absolute Sweetie to her readers (Pun intended ha!)
But seriously. I've had the opportunity to meet Wendy twice now. Once back when Sweet Reckoning was coming out...

and then again at Apollycon 2016 back last February. (Actually Wendy was the first author I ever went to a book signing for, so that's always something cool I think too)

But seriously. Both times I meet her she was amazingly nice and really open to talk with.

Her books also kinda have a special place for me too though. I'm sure if you follow enough of my blog posts an/or FB posts you see that whenever someone mentions a go to book or a first YA read I talk about Hush Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick (Like were talking way back seven or eight years ago when I first realized there were paranormal books for teens in the world)
And while that book was the very start of my love for the genre... I really didn't find out how much I loved books like that till several years later when I accidentally stumbled across Jen Armentrout's Lux series and Wendy's Sweet series. (I have to add that I begged my library for months to get them both before finally caving and buying the Ebooks. They were my escape after moving states and starting over at a new college) I found both series pretty much back to back (I wanna say a little after Sweet Peril came out) and fell in love with the two series that I used them to find a ton of recommendations to other YA fantasy/paranormal books.

In The Great Pursuit, the dramatic sequel to the New York Times bestselling The Great Hunt, Wendy Higgins delivers another thrilling fantasy filled with dangerous enemies, political intrigue, searing romance, and a princess who is willing to do everything to protect her kingdom.
One hunt has ended, but the pursuit for love and justice continues.
The kingdom of Lochlanach has traded the great beast that once terrorized the realm of Eurona for something far more dangerous: the ire of powerful Lashed woman Rosaria Rocato. Rosaria demands that Eurona overturn the laws prohibiting magic, or an innocent will be killed each day.
Despite the king’s resistance, Princess Aerity believes they must make peace with the Lashed, and though she’s accepted a betrothal to the man who took down the beast, she cannot help thinking about Paxton, the Lashed man who stole her heart and disappeared.
Aerity soon discovers that Paxton has joined Rosaria’s army in the war against her family. Though her feelings for him are still strong, her duty to her kingdom and her family is stronger—especially when her parents are kidnapped and she has to step up to the throne and once again put aside what’s best for her in order to do what’s best for her people. Paxton and Princess Aerity must fight to see what is more powerful: their love or the impending war between the magical Lashed and the non-magic humans.

There seriously needs to be an option to give a book 10 stars. 20 even!

Because this book was just so so good.

I have so much love for it. The great Hunt left me wondering so much, and I was literally counting down days until I could get a copy of this one in my hands.

And let me just say... Wendy absolutely blew me away. It was so good... And had so much action and mystery. The keep you on your toes as you read sort of kind too.

I adored Wendy's Sweet series and See Me. And absolutely loved The Great Hunt. So really I shouldn't be surprised that this one was any different.

I loved Wendy's spin on the old Grimm Brothers tale this series is based on, and found myself so wrapped up in this book.

I fought so hard to wait out reading it. knowing I had other ARC'S to get to and such.
but I just happened to have a few free days I hadn't expected, and so I dove back in. (I had been slowly sneaking in a chapter here and there since getting the book)

Once I started The Great Pursuit, I really couldn't stop though. and this weekend was pretty busy with my older sisters baby shower. But I still managed to spend all my time I should have been sleeping buried in the pages of this beautiful and creative world.
Wendy spun such a beautiful world and set of characters, and only managed to expand on that more in this. While we heard of the other lands in the previous book, we really got a chance to step into them, and see the beauty and amazingness of this complex mythical world.I got such a better understanding of how the lands were all set up and connected(Yes I know there's a map at the front of the book. It just gives you a better image when the characters are actually exploring it and taking you through it all though)

But seriously. I just couldn't put this one down (And believe me I tried so hard hehe)

You know when you read a book and it is just so amazingly written that you can picture everything so clearly, like a legit movie in your mind?
That's what this book did.
At the times I did put it down I had to remind myself I was reading a book and not planted in front of my TV or something. the story was that vivid and detailed.

Plus the characters in this book! oh man!! I probably shouldn't even get started on them right now hehe (it's like 2 AM and I have to be up at 7 for class)

But I fell so hard for almost every character Wendy wrote. (well maybe except the despicable baddies that is haha)

Obviously Pax and Harrison were my 2 fav guys. But I also found myself liking Leif and Tiern (though I liked the other Seabolt brother from the start of book 1 too)

And it wasn't just Pax's protective caring either. It was everything about him. How he was willing to do whatever it took to protect Aerity and the kingdom. and his fierceness about everything. I just found this brooding man so incredible kind and sweet at times. And one of those characters you know is truly good to the bone.

Same with Harrison actually. The guy just screamed "I must adore you" lol
His gentle kindness and fierce protectiveness. I loved them both so much.

But I also really enjoyed the girls in this book as well (*Gasp! I know. Me like female characters. no I'm not running a fever I promise ha!)

But you give me some fiery strong girls and heck yeah! I'm on board.
But really, between Aerity, Vixie, and Wyneth, I had a serious girl crush.
They were so fun to get to read. And I know for sure that if these girls were real I would trust them with my life.
Talk about being the opposite of Damsels in Distress.
these 3 knew how to be strong and take care of themselves. and the way they were willing to lay it all on the line for their kingdom was pretty awe-inspiring.

All in all its safe to say I have nothing but good things to say about this book. I absolutely LOVE it (I need to start looking up synonyms for love, adore, and like I think hehe)

Also just let me add... Furball?? he was my favorite part forrealsies. I love that little beast so much!! I officially want one of my own hehe

That and that Wendy seriously knows how to wrote a bad guy. between the Dukes in the Sweet series and Rozaria and the others in this book.... I just I was quite impressed with the despicableness, and her ability to give me some bad guys that I seriously wanted to hate. and strangle. and maim. ya know. the good stuff haha

I give THE GREAT PURSUIT

Built (Saints of Denver #1) By: Jay Crownover

Hey ya'll!! *WAVES
I know I have been super MIA this past couple months, and I will have a new post up soon explaining everything... But until then I wanted to drop by and leave a fun review for one of my fav authors.
I got involved with Jay Crownover's books back when ROME came out a couple years ago. And I've been hooked since.
I was still a newbie blogger, maybe out there a whole 6 months (If even that) when Harper Collins found me somehow and reached out to be a part of the awesome puzzle style cover reveal.
Pretty sure it was actually the first cover reveal I ever did... And I was just like I have no clue what I'm doing. You mean this is a thing blogs do??? How do I know what to do??? Do you contact me??? Do I contact you??? GOWWWDDDD I was so lost hehe.
Then that next summer I went to Book Bash in Orlando and actually got to meet Jay. I think I had maybe read Rule and Jet by that point (I had a hard time with the books that follow different characters in each book back then) And I knew Rome because I had done the cover thing, so I was so excited to actually get to meet her. I had no idea what I was getting into haha (I've met Jay I think 3 times now, and every time is a cool experience. She is so fun and crazy and I remember that first time so well though because she was actually pretty tame that meeting, and after my last couple times I'm just like wait was that the same author hehe)... That whole event in general was another new crazy experience. I had no idea what I was getting into with that (It was so overwhelming, but one of the best experiences I've had)
But I can now proudly say I have come a far way from that point, and have fallen even more for the amazing men Jay writes.

Book Bash 2014
(I share this pic so you can see how big of a dork I was during all this. I mean can we talk about the fact you can't even see my eyes in it haha. But seriously it was such a fun event, and I really introduced me to so many new authors that I read religiously now)

Decatur Book Festival 2015
(Hey look I'm wearing the same shirt haha. I'm dubbing it the signing shirt from this point on lol.
Same cheesy smile, and still no eye balls to be found, but it's a little less fangirly looking lmbo)

Apollycon 2016
(See I can be way more normal now. Still no eyes in the pic, but I don't look like a total weirdo haha. Authors are like my rock stars though. So a little fangirling can be expected hehe
I feel like I have come a far way from that fort picture though, I can act more like a professional blogger than a weirdo freak lol)

Also something I want to add is I've never actually physically read any of Jay's books... What am I talking about you ask????
A friend back when I started these was introducing me to audio books, and RULE just happen to be my first ever audio. And I mean if you haven't done these books in that format you are seriously missing out. The narrators for every book from her are the most amazing people, and after starting her books that way I could never actually bring myself to read them on my own.I mean I have here and there when I couldn't pull an audio out and would have to go to my nook instead. But her books on audio are an experience all their own. And while I've mentioned listening to audio books before I'm not sure I've ever done an audio book review, so I will have some fun this review and do a hybrid of sorts and give you a review, and an audio review. Wish me luck haha ;)

Sometimes a real hero lets you save yourself . . .
Sayer Cole and Zeb Fuller couldn’t be more different. She’s country club and fine-dining, he’s cell-block and sawdust. Sayer spends her days in litigation while Zeb spends his working with his hands. But none of that has stopped Zeb from wanting the stunning blonde since the moment he laid eyes on her—even if the reserved lawyer seems determinedly oblivious to his interest.
Sayer is certain the rough, hard, hot-as-hell Zeb could never want someone as closed off and restrained as she is, which is a shame because something tells her he might be the guy to finally melt her icy exterior. When he shows up at Sayer’s door needing her professional help, she’s both disappointed and relieved that she won’t get the chance to find out just how good he could be.
But as they team up to right a wrong and save a family, the steam created when fire and ice collide cannot be ignored.

So now that you know some of my past with blogging, and get to see in full color the depths of my dorkyness let's get this thing started.

Like I said above... I listen to all of these books in audio form. It started back with The Marked Men books, continued with the Welcome To The Point books, and now I'm keeping it going with the Saints of  Denver.
Let me make something clear though. It's not that I don't enjoy jay's books as books. I just a have a few authors that I prefer to listen to the adios of (Kristen Proby, Jay, Christina Lauren)
All of those books are amazing regular reading style, but when you listen to them, it just changes something, and makes the books about 187% better. The narrators chosen for each character are matched to that character perfectly. I mean it would be exactly the way I would picture them sounding in my head. And I really can't tell you how much I want to convince you to go listen to all of Jay's books in that format. It will seriously change the way you see them. You will love them even more than you already do.
It adds so much depth to the feelings jay is able to write her characters having. Especially with Sayer and Zeb in this case. Both characters are a little... broken? I'm not sure that's really the word I want. But they have both been through a lot in their lives and when I listened to this one the narrators were able to portray those emotions and struggles in such a way that had my emotions all over the place. (if you don't know, I'm not very emotional when it comes to that sort of thing. I can count on one hand the number of books that have made me cry... This wasn't one, but that doesn't mean that it didn't wring me listening to it.) Jay has a way of writing that speaks to the reader in general. She creates these characters that are relatable, and a bit larger than life. But still makes them so normal and you get to see the things they struggle with. She makes you feel the things they do with her writing, and let me tell you. An author that has an ability to connect her characters and story that well with readers is an amazing one in my book. We get all the hot heavy romance, but still with the soft gentle struggling aspect that makes these fictional characters real in a way. And allows for the reader to connect to them like they were someone they met on the street rather than are reading about in a fictional book. I could totally picture myself hiring Zeb to come do work on my new house I just moved into, or grabbing a drink with Sayer after work.

I want to kinda jump to Sayer and Zeb themselves after all that. Because now that I've babbled on about how real they seem I guess I should explain them a bit more huh?

I'll start with Sayer, as is my normal style to start with the heroin.
I really liked her character. While I normally take to Jay's male characters more (I mean who wouldn't. They are tatted, pierced, a little broken, romantic, amazingly kind... Ok I'll stop haha)
I really think Sayer may be one of my favorite female characters Jay has written yet. I mean just her job alone blows my mind. She is fierce and loyal to her clients, and really does a job that is mostly male dominated better than any man could. She also picked up and  moved her entire life to be close to family she didn't even know she had until very recently. That alone takes guts. I know personally the farthest I've ever moved from any of my immediate family has been 5 hours and I traveled home any chance I got. Now while my situation is much different from Sayers. Even moving away from the familiarity of my home for literally the unknown scares me and I couldn't imagine doing what she did at all. And I actually think that makes me like her more. Because she did something that I wish I could and was brave enough to do, and she gives me hope I would be able to do something like that if I ever had to. Fictional characters can be role models too ya'll!!

I know I mentioned that both Zeb and Sayer were sort of broken characters (Still not sure that is the word for it, but we're going to go with it until I find a better one)
Sayer's family experience is one I wouldn't wish on anyone. It was loveless and dull to say the least. Lacking of any sort of compassion or color mentally and physically. Sayer is the epitome of put together and proper, but because of the way she was raised she lacks the sparkle and vibrancy of life. That is until the very colorful Zeb enters her world. He shows her that life isn't all muted grays and blacks and that even the smallest things can bring joy and life to something. But it isn't only him that manages to do this for her. Rowdy and Salem, along with Salem's sister Poppy and the whole Marked men crew in general do what they can and help Sayer in their own ways. Poppy especially. In helping her, Sayer begins to see things differently and wants to be different. She sees that there are people who need her. And in caring for someone who could be a little more broken than she is helps her to fix things about herself as well.
She is a great character to watch grow as the story progresses, and I'm so happy Jay decided to give us her story.

So on to Zeb I guess...
This man... Gosh, he just is one of those incredible Jay Crownover men I was telling you about. And this on eis all tattooed and bearded??? Yes please! I have a love for those me. Fictional or not hehe.
But Zeb is just sort of special. He is one of those characters tat is fiercely loyal to the people he loves and cares about. To the point that he is willing to do whatever he thinks needs to be done to protect them. No matter the cost to himself.

I will admit, I was completely intrigued by him back in The Marked Men and the more we learn about him the more I fall in love with him.

Zeb has been through some pretty crappy things in the pursuit of taking care of the people he loves. One decision in particular he did to protect someone dear to him had lasting repercussions Zeb fights with every day. Not because he is fighting his demons really, but because that decision changed the course of his life and he has to work extremely hard to prove he isn't the bad guy. It breaks your heart in a way to see such a good person struggle with that sort of situation when the only reason they were put in it was because of love for someone.

But I have to say. Zeb is incredible in the fact that despite dealing with all of his other problems he works extremely hard and is even willing to change things about his entire life when a new person is thrown into the mix of things. He works so hard to prove he is the kind of person this new one needs and will do whatever he must to be a part of their lives. While also balancing his new relationship with Sayer and deciding if she is willing to accept him, flaws and all. (Yes there is another person that comes into Zebs life.... And I'm not talking about Sayer. Obviously haha. But I won't give anything away. Don't worry ;) )

But all that Zeb goes through for even just Sayer... Trying to win her over and help her deal with her own internal issues proves the kind of man he. He really cares for her and wants to help. But even he has his breaking points too, and Sayer has to decide if he's worth it.

I also want to talk about Poppy a little before I wrap this baby up. She is Salem's sister, yes Rowdy's Salem. And if you remember back in Rowdy, she moved in with Sayer after wanting space from Salem when she moved to Denver to escape her awful past and be able to start healing.
She is this shy little thing, scared from what she went through, but on the mend. Sayer sort of takes her under her wing and tries to give her an environment she will feel comfortable in. But Poppy kinda has this way of not only being able to heal herself but also helping Sayer to as well (Sort of like I mentioned above) We see these two women who have such different experiences but who retreat into their selves to protect them. And while small things like letting Poppy pick a color of a wall seem sort of insignificant. Giving her a choice at something has a way of helping to put her on the mend. And while yes, Sayer really deals with some intense stuff. Poppy to me is the one I kinda looked up to throughout the story. She is just so inspiring in the fact that she was able to go through what she did,and yet still be strong enough to say that won't stop me.It may slow me down, but I will get back up, and I will be even stronger no matter how much time it takes. It really stuns me sometimes how attached to the supporting characters I become. Because while I loved Sayer and Zeb, Poppy and that other person I won't say who they are really touched my heart and I think had the biggest impact on me.

This story was definitely one of my favorites that Jay has written. (I'm sure by now I've explained my whole not ever crying thing in enough posts... I am an emotionless weirdo for those who don't know.... No not really, I just don't cry very often or anything) And while this book didn't make me cry, it definitely had me feeling things. It was just such a beautiful story about finding some sort of peace with your past and almost even redemption in ways. But also was such a great story at proving everyone deserves to be loved and cared for, even when you've been told you don't or haven't been shown that sort of care and compassion before.

Built is absolutely marvelous, and I hope that I've been able to convince you to at least give it or any of Jay's books a shot. They are truly amazing and by far some of my favorite books.

I give Built: ***** 5 Stars *****
