About ALL PLAYED OUT
First person in her family to go to college? CHECK. Straight A’s? CHECK. On track to graduate early? CHECK. Social life? …..yeah, about that…. With just a few weeks until she graduates, Antonella DeLuca’s beginning to worry that maybe she hasn’t had the full college experience. (Okay... Scratch that. She knows she hasn't had the full college experience). So Nell does what a smart, dedicated girl like herself does best. She makes a "to do" list of normal college activities. Item #1? Hook up with a jock. Rusk University wide receiver Mateo Torres practically wrote the playbook for normal college living. When he’s not on the field, he excels at partying, girls, and more partying. As long as he keeps things light and easy, it's impossible to get hurt... again. But something about the quiet, shy, sexy-as-hell Nell gets under his skin, and when he learns about her list, he makes it his mission to help her complete it. Torres is the definition of confident (And sexy. And wild), and he opens up a side of Nell that she's never known. But as they begin to check off each crazy, exciting, normal item, Nell finds that her frivolous list leads to something more serious than she bargained for. And while Torres is used to taking risks on the field, he has to decide if he's willing to take the chance when it's more than just a game. Together they will have to decide if what they have is just part of the experiment or a chance at something real.

And don’t miss the first two books in the Rusk University Series…

Blog Tour: A Mom For Umande By: Maria Faulconer

Hey ya'll I am happy to post my first ever review/blog tour for a children's book. I have been dying to introduce a children's review section to the blog and this is a great step in that direction. I know many of you are adults or at least young adults who follow my blog but I hope that you have a young someone in your life to be able to share this amazing book with. I know I started reading at a very young age and some of my fondest memories are laying in bed while my dad or mom read me Dr. Seuss, and eventually when I got old enough, to trade of reading pages of Magic Tree House with my dad. I hope that I can at the very least inspire at least one person to go out and read to someone, be it a child, your younger sibling, grandchild, or even a niece or nephew like do.

I hope you all enjoy, and be sure to enter the great giveaway going on at the bottom of the post.

Also be sure to check out all the posts along the tour :)

A MOM FOR UMANDE by Maria Faulconer (http://jenhalliganpr.com/tour/a-mom-for-umande/)

The heart-tugging true story of how a baby gorilla found love in the arms of a surrogate mom.

When Umande was born, his mother didn’t know how to take care of him. So, he was hand-reared by keepers at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs. For eight months, the keepers crawled on the ground with him to show him how to walk; coughed in his face to teach him discipline; and gave him happy gorilla grumbles to encourage him. But for Umande, something was still missing. Luckily, a thousand miles away at the Columbus Zoo, a mom was waiting just for him.

This touching true story about finding a family will resonate with animal lovers and adoptive families alike.

Illustrated by Susan Kathleen Hartung

A Mom for Umande: Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Review:
I absolutely loved this book. This is the first time that I am doing a review for a children's book, and I am so happy I picked this one to be my first. Maria has a lovely way of telling the story. She writes in a simplistic way that many children can understand, and makes the story personal for the kids. I loved not only getting the story of this tiny animal but also that of her keepers and the struggle they go through to make Umande's life better, even if that means not getting to be around her anymore. I also love how she was able to share this true story in a way that will interest children. I know when I read the book with my nine year old niece she was on the computer the minute we finished looking up info about Umande. I love books that can get kids involved. Sadly I don't think kids get enough of these kinds of books in their life, and I really respect Maria for writing such an amazing book.

Ok lets talk illustration for a few minutes. I absolutely loved loved loved Kathleen's images. They were bright and beautiful. The way she drew the pictures they were extremely fun and kid friendly. I smiled with each turn of the page. My niece also enjoyed them, loving how cute Umande was.
If I ever attempted to write a kids book I would defiantly want her to be my illustrator.

Both woman did such an amazing job and I am so thankful for the privilege of getting to read this book. Thank you to not only Maria for sending me a copy of it to read and enjoy but to Jen Halligan PR for introducing me to the book and putting up with my lack of communication over the holiday months. I appreciate the opportunity you all have given me for this tour.

~~SUMMARY~~
Ascension-3D-Bookstack Rohnert is descended from a long line of pure-blooded vampires ruled by the Vampire Council. Quiet and principled, he is known for his combat expertise and is beloved by peers and students alike. When his former ally, Goran, becomes the Council leader and the killing starts, Rohnert strikes out on his own. The vampire race is in upheaval when he discovers a black book that contains the wisdom and history of his people. Rohnert refuses to support Goran’s tyrannical rule and has no interest in ruling himself, no matter what the book foretells. He allies with freedom fighters led by the indomitable Harrow Gates. However, the prophecies fail to prepare him to handle one passionate and determined human doctor. The last thing Shelly Anderson wanted was to fall in love. After meeting enigmatic and reclusive Rohnert, her resolve quickly crumbles. Their one night together ends in a nightmare. She is determined to carry on without him, but Rohnert’s unexpected reentry into her life derails her plans. While she teaches him how powerful a human’s love can be, Rohnert realizes the lengths he is willing to go to keep her close and safe, even if it means violating a long-standing decree among pure-blooded vampires to keep their bloodlines intact. When Goran begins to kill off the remaining Vampire Council Elders, Harrow’s rebels urge Rohnert to step in. It isn’t until harsh reality comes knocking at his door that his choice becomes clear. Rohnert must do whatever he can to save the people he loves or risk losing them forever. However, the reluctant savior may already be too late to protect the lives that matter most.

Interview with Lorenz:
  • How did you come up with the idea for The Gates’ Legacy series?

My take on these popular creatures spun from a conversation with a friend. He asked me what happens if a vampire has Aids. The question got me thinking.

I couldn’t give an answer right away, but the idea stayed with me. It took me a few days to sit down and write the first chapter. After that, I still had no clear foresight of what I wanted in the story, so I didn’t force it.  After a few months, I started thinking about the question again. To be honest, when I began writing, I only had a vision of the beginning and end, and certainly didn’t plan on writing a series. As soon as chapter two of Hunted was underway and Harrow became alive in my head, scene after scene started popping and I found myself writing a chapter per day. That is a lot considering I didn’t have an outline.

When all of it became real in my head, there was no stopping me. Harrow is sick and hunted. The Vampire Council is out to get him. The concept is simple, but the integration of sub-plots and colorful characters added ‘meat’ and excitement to the story. By the end of Hunted, the ideas for the next books in the series were firm inside my head.
  • Harrow is not like most guys – alpha male material – and yet we can’t help but fall in love with him for his sensitivity. Is he based on someone in your life? How’d his character come to be?

Harrow is a unique character that sprung out of nowhere. He is not based on a real-life person. When the idea for Hunted was conceived, I only have a name and circumstance surrounding the character. As the story progressed, he became much more prominent and took over. Everything I wrote was dictated by him and the people he dealt with. Harrow is a kind soul and he is not afraid to show his tender side. The more I write him, the more real he becomes. Maybe this will come as a surprise, but I actually had several interesting conversation with him.
  • Tell us about Tor?

Tor is a fun character to write. He is a gritty, in-your-face type of guy, and he is not afraid to say things as he sees them. He has a great banter with Harrow throughout the first book and they feed off each other. Tor gets along with everyone. He is loyal and has a soft spot for women. There are many moments wherein he provided the comic relief in tense scenes.
  • Jordan is a tough woman hell-bent on revenge. What do you have planned for her in the future?

Jordan is unpredictable. I’m sure you will agree with me if you have read the story already. She dances to her own beat and takes crap from no one. She’s a loosely based on someone I know. *grins*
I can’t say much about her role in the future books except she’ll be pivotal in the end of book three which is Ascension.
  • You created a colorful cast of side characters. Which one(s) was your favorite to write, and do you plan to feature them more in future books?

Gee, aside from the major characters, Jethro (Hunted) is one of my favorite. Though he is a minor character, I found him giggle-worthy every time he graces the scene. I love the way he dress and talk. Yessur!
Another character that I found engaging is Alonzo (Ascension), Zo for short. He is Rohnert’s sidekick and lightens up the dark mood whenever he opens his mouth. He is a fun character to write, especially his salsa-outing antics.
Another noteworthy character to mention is Aemerria. She will be introduced in book 4, Reckoning, and you will find her intriguing after the first mention. She is going to be a pivotal character in the 5th book, Redemption.
  • What other projects are in the works for you?

Currently, I’m in edits for Reckoning, Book 4 of the series, slated for release on June 4. I’m very excited about this particular installment because I will be introducing a new ‘rare’ breed of vampires. If you have been following the series, each book focuses on a particular character and their love interest. Reckoning features Cyrus and Isidora, and their struggles to embrace their new identities and their role in each other’s lives. Reckoning is a very special project for me since I wrote the story while doing four edits at the same time, on top of promoting Pieces of Broken Time, which was released last July. If not with the help of my dedicated beta-readers and friends, Tbird, Wendy and Claudia, who were willing to read while I write because of my deadline to produce the manuscript, I wouldn’t have finished the story and still maintain my sanity.
We are also prepping up for the March re-release of Indivisible Line, a romantic thriller set in the beautiful land of Beaver, Alaska and of course, my favorite, New York City.
These are all my projects for 2015. Then I plan to spend the rest of the year promoting, gathering my wits and hopefully catch my writing mojo again. It has been a crazy 2014, but I feel so blessed to be surrounded by a supporting group of family and friends.
  • Tell us about your journey to becoming published.

I can’t say the path was clear and easy. I had my share of heartaches. Many writers, I’m certain, will agree with me when I say that rejection is a part of the deal. It is almost a ‘rite of passage’. I’m glad it didn’t take long for my stories to find a home. Each time I submitted a manuscript, I didn’t sit around and wait, I kept writing. All it takes is to have the right mindset, motivation and attitude.
  • Which authors influence you the most?

Let’s just say I love reading Stephen King’s, JR Ward’s and Nicholas Sparks’ stories. These are authors whose writing evokes a multitude of strong emotions in me. I have their stories in book form, on my Kindle, and audio book collections.

~~EXCERPT~~
Young caucasian couple in love at twilight light

The flimsy door was torn off its hinges like a piece of cardboard. “What the hell is going on here?” Rohnert’s voice rattled everything around them, sending the bottles of precious anesthetics to the floor with a loud crash. “Don’t you ever knock?” Shelly wobbled to the nearest chair and flopped onto it clumsily. “I heard you cry. What’s wrong?” Rohnert rushed to her side, ignoring her question, and placed his hand on her belly. It could have been the warmth of his touch or some quack medicinal magic, but her back felt instant relief. Shelly had wanted to deny him the privilege of connecting with their unborn child. Instead, she smothered a moan at the glorious reprieve he brought to her. She was much too proud to acknowledge how his presence soothed her. “Nothing’s wrong. I probably pulled a muscle when I bent down to pick up the scissors.” She tried to move away from him, to disconnect herself from his touch. Cheryl took one look at Rohnert, and without a word took her leave. Mort scrambled to his feet and followed suit. Rohnert kept his hand on her back. “You’re lying.” He peered at her. Shelly bit her tongue to keep herself from lobbing another furious retort. She looked away, focusing on the exit. He had no right to look so attractive and virile, and her heart shouldn’t be hammering against her chest the way it was. Under his close scrutiny, she felt vulnerable, naked almost, and she hated the sexual stirring in her gut. “You look tired.” “I’m fine. It’s my normal. I have to go to work now.” “You’re done working for the night.” Rohnert’s eyes bore into hers. The command in voice would have sent others seeking for cover. She was no pushover. “You’re not telling me what to do.” Shelly stood up and bolted past him. Rohnert was quick to restrain her, and he spun her around to face him. “I’m not doing this to annoy you. You have to look after yourself and our child. Your schedule doesn’t allow you enough rest.” Sure. He was going all gallant on her, showing concern. It was a bit too cozy and little too late. “No, it isn’t,” he said, answering her unspoken words. “I left because I wanted to protect—” “Oh spare me the details. You left because you’re afraid to show you care. Now that I’m pregnant, you come waltzing back into my life to take control. If you’re concerned for the child’s well-being, don’t be. I’m going to let It know who the sperm donor is.” She watched his face harden. “Do not call our child It. We’re going to give him a name, and I’m not just a donor. I intend to be a part of his life every step of the way.” So he had been eavesdropping. Just for kicks, she pushed on. “And how do you propose that we go about doing that?” Shelly held Rohnert’s gaze with enough challenge to discourage any man. His features softened, and his eyes crinkled. “I want a ceremony to bind us. I don’t want my son to be born a bastard.” As in getting married? Her chest felt weird all of a sudden, inflating at the prospect, but she tamped down her excitement. Where in hell does this man get these silly notions? “And if I won’t do it?” Rohnert smiled, exposing the tips of his fangs. “You won’t deny your child the life he deserves.” Too cocky for his own good. Shelly snorted and shook her head. “This child deserves to live in peace away from the killings and without the fear of getting killed.” It was obvious that she’d struck a nerve when his nostrils flared. Shelly stifled a smile. “I will protect my child with my life.” He pulled her closer until their faces were almost touching and held her chin with his thumb and forefinger. “You won’t get rid of me, even if you try.” Without giving her a chance to answer, he cupped her face with his big hands and captured her mouth in a hungry kiss, demanding her to respond. Shelly planted her palms against his chest and pushed. Rohnert didn’t budge. He growled against her lips and deepened the kiss, rendering her breathless and weak in the knees. Her hands relaxed then fisted in his jacket, finally feeling the burn of his mouth. Oh, God. How could she think straight? She prided herself on being tough, and she usually stuck to her resolve. Yet Rohnert short circuited her brain, making it difficult to think of anything but getting him between her legs. His hands wound down to the small of her back and pressed her body until there was not a hairline of space between them. She felt lightheaded. This had to stop. She wasn’t going to . . . Shelly moaned, unable to stop herself from touching his face. If she were truthful with herself, she wanted this and needed him like air. She also needed a doctor. It was obvious she was sick in the head. She had vowed not to allow him walk all over her, and look at what was she doing—allowing him to trample her will and moaning like a sex-starved kitten while he did.

Wicked By: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Well this is probably one of the quickest reviews I have ever gotten posted before. I bought this book yesterday afternoon when it finally went live on B&N and had some time (Which I should have spent studying for my Bio final) to start reading. And like all good book junkies I stayed up till an ungodly hour reading, until I was literally to tired to keep my eyes open. Then when finally waking up again, I spent the better part of today (time I should be studying once again) finishing this book.

So did I love Wicked??? My answer, HELL YEAH!!!! It took me less than 24 hours to get the thing read. I got to the last page and wanted to cry, I wanted more, and I want it right that very minute hehe. I do not want to wait all the way until next summer to get my fix.

Synopsis:
Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn't your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren't the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul. (From B&N)

Ok ya'll so I have been counting down and counting down waiting for this book to be out, and I finally got my hands on it.

And what on earth would my life be if I didn't have some crazy story about obtaining my book to share with you?

So I 'm sure many of you know that some bookstores will go ahead and shelve a book a few days early sometimes, so here I am in my local Books-A-Million on Sunday searching the shelves to see if by some miracle this book is one of those. After searching almost the entire store and coming up empty I finally break down and ask the people at the help desk (Which I never do because if they find out a book was shelved early they will take it away from you and make you wait) SO I go up to the desk and the woman working I recognize as this super nice lady from the last time I was in before Thanksgiving. Thinking to myself "sweet this lady will know my pain and take pity on me" I ask if by chance the book has been shelved early. To which she gives me this nasty look and goes on to explain that that rarely happens and if it does it's a mistake blah blah blah blah blah (totally rude and not the same sweet lady I remember) plus BAM usually always puts books out a day or two early unlike the evil B&N (who if you don't know, I have love hate relationship I'm stuck in, due to my Nook) So reluctantly she finally goes over to the computer and searches the dang book for me. After flipping through the dozens of books named Wicked she finally has to ask who the author is again, and after what seemed like a year of her searching, informs me that the book will only be available in audio format. And I literally just kinda started at her for a minute or two dumbfounded. What the freak did she mean it was only available in audio form? This is a JLA book we are talking about. I know it comes out the next day, I''m a blog on the release event. So totally dejected I head out of the store and finish my shopping before hunkering down back home to spend the night studying (It actually was probably good I didn't get the book with my final the next day and all) So next day I head off to class take my A&P final and swing by the other BAM on my home thinking it will be there with it being release day and all. After a shelf check I go ask for help and am informed again that the book is only available on audio. So at this point I am totally confused. I come home fire up my neglected computer (I was trying to keep away from it to study) and get my release day posts made for Wicked and Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry. When I realize I have made a huge mistake. After reading through all my release day packet info and trolling Jenn's Facebook I realized that Wicked was only going to be for sale in paperback on Amazon. So breaking down I waited for the B&N link for the e-book to go live and scooped it up on my Nook while also ordering my hard copy on Amazon (Thank God for Prime) Because even with two day shipping I couldn't wait to start reading. So that was this books crazy story. This seems to be becoming a new pattern in my book buying lately lol

So Wicked. This book is by far I think one of my favorite JLA books. It could possibly even be better than her Lux series *GASP!!!
I never thought those words would leave my lips hehe (That series until now has been my favorite along with Wendy Higgins's Sweet Evil series)

So this book was not at all what I expected. I had read the synopsis and the teasers and all that fun stuff but for some reason I guess I was really expecting these voodoo creatures, like something out of The Princess and The Frog lol. Ha, that would be a big NO. Instead I was met with fae. Really fae? Not that I am complaining or anything, but that was so far from where my mind had been heading.
And normally I am not a fae kinda girl, I've only read a few that I really truly like in the past, and those were ones that had very fresh and unique takes on them. Which is exactly what Jenn did in this book. Plus the story wasn't predominantly based on a fae in particular like so many of the other books are. I loved that they had the creepy bump in the night thing going on, and while we were introduced to a few in particular, they were more just the nameless bad guys in the background.

What I really loved about this book though was how many twists and turns it took. Just when I thought I had everything figured out Jenn would take the book in a completely different direction, and I would be left going dayummmm!!!!

This book was a pretty cool cross too. Jenn writes in a few different genres and this book took the paranormal feel that many of her YA books have, and then mixed that with the sexy steamy stuff her new adult romance books typically have. This is something that I actually am really excited about too. I love both genres so much, YA Paranormal Romance will always be my baby. Those books have been my go to kinda books from the time I read Hush Hush back sophomore year in high school. And as the New Adult books began to take off, and me at the same age as many of those characters I found myself drawn to them as well. But I do miss the strange world Paranormal Romance offers. And lets face it, most paranormal adult romance books you find are going to be a bit on the erotica or bdsm side, and while those can be good, they really aren't something I read all the time. So having this new wave of Paranormal New adult is literally the best thing I could ask for in a book hehe. And Jenn isn't the only one jumping on this. Cora Carmack released her new book Inspire only a week or two after this book came out, and it also is a crossover. And a really good one at that.

And ok my gush part of this review. So this books Hottie is the sexy Ren.
He is by far one of my favorites so far that Jenn has written. He is witty, smart, caring, and a bit mysterious. He comes into Ivy's life and makes her feel things she never has in the past, not just physically but about the life she has been living till Ren comes into the picture. He brings out emotions that Ivy had never even wished to experience before, but Ren also brings secrets with him. Secrets that will change every thing in not only Ivy's life, but his as well.
Ren oozes confidence and heck, what is more sexy than a guy with a motorcycle and takes what he wants?
I really do love his character and can not wait to get more of him in the next book.

(For your viewing pleasure, here is a pic of the sexy cover model)

Ok I have another character I would like to say a bit about. And that is Tink. While I wont give much away about the little terror I think he deserves some attention. Leading up to me reading the book I had seen a few teasers for Tink and most referenced those old troll dolls (you know those ones that you could brush their hair and had jewels as belly buttons) and I was so confused. Was Tink a troll? Hahahhhaah no, and believe me you will never guess what the little devil is. But, he was one of my absolute favorite characters in this book. And he has this obsession with buying thing on amazon with prime (1-click is a bitch ya'll hehe) Well read the book and get Tink in all his pain in the ass glory. But seriously he will make you laugh, and really is the best thing Jenn has ever created in one of her books.

So, what do I rate Wicked?

7 stars!!! This book was so amazing and I don't know if I can keep waiting for the next one, I seriously need it freaking now! It has everything a good book should and I can't wait to see what Jenn has up her sleeve next

*****I give Wicked 5 Stars*****
